How to measure your blinds for exact or recess fittings
It's easy to order from #Blinds, as you only need two measurements - the width and the drop. Use a metal tape measure as cloth and plastic tape measures can bend and stretch and provide inaccurate measurements. Always check your measurements carefully.
STEP 1 - DECIDE ON THE TYPE OF BLIND FITTING YOU WANT - EXACT OR RECESS
First, decide if you want your blind to sit inside your window (Measurement type Recess) or be mounted outside the window recess on the wall (Measurement type Exact).
Before ordering, please check that your window opens outwards and that there are no obstructions such as handles or dado rails that could prevent the blind from being opened or closed easily.
If there are obstructions, if the widow opens inwards or if your window has a shallow recess (less than 6cm deep), please order an Outside Mounted Blind (Exact) or call us on 0203 490 0863 to discuss options.
STEP 2 - TAKE THE MEASUREMENTS FOR YOUR DAY & NIGHT BLINDS AND BLINDS
Please note that the width of the cloth on a roller, day night, vista or harmony blind is 3.5-4cm narrower than the overall width of the blind.
This is to allow for any control component on the side so the mechanism (or headrail) is wider than the cloth. We will always take the provided width and manufacture this as the full blind width (not cloth width). You may wish to adjust your measurements if you want the cloth to cover more of the window or consider fitting the blind outside of the window and allowing for overlap. If you are ordering a roller blind to fit inside a recess with a side mounting, please state the exact measurement at the top of the window (and select exact instead of recess), as this is where the header will be fitted. Please note that day night, vista or harmony blinds cannot be side fixed. Bay Windows and Conservatories To ensure accurate measuring for bay windows and conservatories please contact our customer services team and one of our experienced operators will be more than happy to talk you through the best way to measure your particular windows.
STEP 3 - OUTSIDE MOUNTED BLINDS - EXACT FITTING
Decide how much you want your blind to overlap the wall or window frame on each side. We usually suggest an overlap of 6cm on all sides.
Measure the outside of your window frame from side to side plus the overlap on both sides, and top to bottom plus the overlap at the top and bottom. Ideally the blind should not obscure the window when it's raised.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR MEASUREMENTS BECAUSE THESE ARE CUSTOM MADE BLINDS. THE MAKERS ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ERRORS IN ORDERING.
For accurate measurements please use a metal tape measure, and take measurements in centimetres, to the nearest 0.5cm.
All of our blinds can be fixed into the face of the window frame or wall, or into the top of the lintel - allowing you total control of the depth your blind can be positioned in the depth of your window recess.
Choose whether you want the blinds to hang inside or outside the window recess.
Please check for the proximity of adjacent walls, furniture, window handles etc. when measuring for your blinds.
For blinds to hang inside the window recess, Measure the drop by taking the measurement from the top of the recess to the window sill, in three places as shown.
Measure the width of the window recess from wall to wall, in three places as shown. Take the smallest measurement. We will make all adjustments to ensure your blinds fit perfectly.
For blinds to hang outside the window recess, Measure the exact area you would like the blind to cover as shown. Please note the actual width of roller blind fabric will be your measurement less 3.4cm (exact) and 3.9cm (recess).
Look after your blinds by following the straightforward operating instructions below.
The side chain operates the height of the blind. Pull the chain nearest to you to move the blind down. Pull the chain furthest away from you to move the blind up.

As members of the British Blinds and Shutters Association, all our blinds comply with the BBSA’s strict guidelines regarding child safety and are tested to meet the regulations outlined in the British and European safety standard EN 13120:2009 + A1:2014 . The BBSA is a British only trade association representing companies that manufacture and supply interior and exterior blinds, awnings, security grills and shutters. As part of our compliance to these regulations and to make sure that our blinds are out of reach of children, all the chains and cords provided with our products will be made at a maximum length of one meter.
Furthermore, if a child or vulnerable person is likely to be using the room where the blind is installed, you MUST fit the safety device we provide in order to tie up the pull cord safely out of the way of children, vulnerable persons and pets.
Even when the safety device is fitted, we recommend that you move beds, cots and furniture away from any window.
